The Redskins showed a ton of promise at the end of last year. Having added Antwaan Randle El to compliment Santana Moss, the team has polished off most of their needs on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, there is a different story. Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers make very solid options as starting cornerbacks, but the depth of talent is very thin behind those two starters. Having lost Antonio Pierce and LaVar Arrington to free agency, the team is paper thin at linebacker. They need to find a starting caliber player in the draft or be starting a veteran backup. Having only one pick on day one, the Redskins have to be very sure of whomever they choose to select. They need a proven, productive player from a power conference who can contribute in the NFL tomorrow.

Cornerback is a physical corner with free safety
potential that gives thethe Redskins immediate depth

(53) Cedric Griffin, CB. Texas
There exists no depth at the cornerback position for the Redskins. Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers are fine as starters, but the talent level goes steeply downhill from there. A productive player like Cedric Griffin would be a great addition as a nickel back. At 6'0"/199, Griffin has excellent size and is very physical and aggressive. He plays faster than his 4.55 time and acts very instinctively on the field. In terms of a nickelback, he would be an excellent option that is polished and NFL ready. With only one pick day one, the Redskins have no time to mess around. They can take no risks with their pick, and Cedric Griffin is a legitimate option.

Abdul Hodge is the sure-fire talent the 'Skins need

(*) Abdul Hodge, LB. Iowa
LaMar Marshall and Marcus Washington are both legitimate linebacking options. However, with the loss of LaVar Arrington to free agency, the team still needs to find someone to fill the last spot in the linebacking corp. Abdul Hodge of Iowa is a strong, physical, productive option for the Redskins. Undersized at 6'0"/236, Hodge makes up for his lack of size in his big hitting ability. An instinctive player and team leader, Abdul Hodge is a sure-fire commodity. His ceiling may be lower than some, but his talent floor is very high. In Abdul Hodge, the Redskins know they have a player that can contribute from day one.
