Philadelphia Eagles Forecast
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Philadelphia Eagles (6-10)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(14) Chad Greenway, OLB. Iowa
(45) John McCargo, DT. NC State
(76) Jeremy Trueblood, OT. Boston College
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Eagles have a ton of needs to fill on draft day. At linebacker, Dhani Jones has been very disappointing on the strong side and Shawn Barber is just not a starter in the NFL on the weak side. Ideally, a premium coverage guy will surface as an excellent value to forced Shawn Barber to the sidelines. Up front, the defensive tackles have been disappointing. Finding a stud that is disruptive in the middle would make excellent sense for the Eagles. On the offensive side of the ball, it is no surprise that the team is weak at recevier. Reggie Brown did show promise last year and Donovan McNabb has proven that he can have success without a true #1, but finding a dynamic option would take pressure of both Donovan McNabb and Bryan Westbrook. Ultimately, the Eagles have a handful of holes, but a good draft could bring them back into the hunt in the NFC East.
(14) Chad Greenway, OLB. Iowa
Shawn Barber just is not cutting it on the weak side for the Eagles. Chad Greenway is a prototypical WILL linebacker who would fit perfect alongside Jeremiah Trotter and Dhani Jones. Greenway is ideally sized at 6'3"/242 and has impressive strength. His 4.75 speed is sketchy, but he appears to fly all over the field on film, making Greenway an anomaly. Most of all, Greenway is superb in coverage. Having recevied his first 11-on-11 football action at Iowa, Greenway is still developing as a player. Considering he was considered on-par with AJ Hawk at the beginning of this football season, it is easy to see why teams can look right past the 4.75 speed figure.
(45) John McCargo, DT. NC State
Brodrick Bunkley is a force inside. On a very talented NC State defense, he often managed to outshine other professional prospects Manny Lawson and Mario Williams in terms of production. He has outstanding strength, shedding blockers to stop the run very effectively. Yet, on passing downs, he splits double-teams and gets into the offensive backfield very reliably. McCargo is simply a dynamic player on the interior line. During his college career, he had at least one tackle for loss in every game that he started. It is very possible that McCargo lands in the first round, ahead of his linemate Manny Lawson. It is equally possible that he makes it all the way to #45 and becomes the defensive tackle that Andy Reid desires.
(76) Jeremy Trueblood, OT. Boston College
It would seem very strange for the Eagles to not grab a receiver by the end of day one, but with so many neeeds elsewhere and with Donovan McNabb having proved during his career that he can manange without top-notch receivers, grabbing a right tackle before the sure-fire players are gone makes more sense for the franchise. Jeremy Trueblood is a massive body on the field. At 6'8"/316, he possesses the strength and size to absolutely manhandle his opponents in the running game. A team leader who is both hard working and intelligent, Trueblood is the brand of the player that the Eagles would prefer in this draft. He is neither a threat to tam continuity nor is he a liability on the field.
(*) Chad Jackson, WR. Florida State
Losing Terrell Owens really hurt last season. During his short stint in Philadelphia, TO turned the Eagles into the beast of the NFC, taking them to a Super Bowl. Chad Jackson of Florida is of the Terrell Owens mold. His 6'1"/213 size is above average, and he has exceelent speed (4.32) and quickness. Different from TO, Chad Jackson is a leader with a positive influence in the locker room. Jackson runs well in the open field and has very reliable hands. His route-running and blocking need some help at the moment, but with a little development, Chad Jackson could be a dominant recevier in the NFL. Chad Jackson has TO potential, period.
