Cleveland Browns Forecast
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Cleveland Browns (6-10)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(12) Kamerion Wimbley, DE. Florida State
(43) Gabe Watson, DT. Michigan
(78) Rodrique Wright, DE. Texas
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Browns will probably be drafting defense with every pick on day one not because Romeo Crennel is a defensive mind, but because the team needs youthful help up front. Free agency was great to the Browns. LeCharles Bentley and Kevein Schaffer gave the offensive line the help it needed, and Joe Jurevicious offers Charlie Frye another passing target. Willie McGinest and Ted Washington give the Browns legitmate veterans to sure up their front seven. However, the Browns defense is getting old and some youthful talent to spruce up the front seven of the 3-4 would make perfect sense. The team's two major areas of need are a pass rushing outside linebacker and a run-stuffing space-eater at defensive tackle. There two positions will likely be filled within the first two picks.
(12) Kamerion Wimbley, DE. Florida State
Ideally, the Browns would like to acquire Haloti Ngata with their first-round pick. However, with him being taken by this point, Kamerion Wimbley is the next best thing. The Browns need a pass rush upgrade. One way or another, they will manage to find someone day one. Wimbley is the ideal option. At 6'4"/248, he has ideal size to play the pass-rushing OLB/DE hybrid position in the 3-4. Wimbley is an excellent natural athlete that is simpyla pass rushing machine. He has tons of upside, and the Browns are in love with his abilities. A high character guy, Wimbley is a Romeo Crennel guy.
(43) Gabe Watson, DT. Michigan
Ted Washington is now a Brown. When he is gone, the middle of the Browns defense will be very thin. Their run defense will likely be exposed without an impact acquisition at defensive tackle. Gabe Watson can be a giant inside. He can take on two blockers, and still get penetration. He can dominate at the point of attack to where no one will get so much as a yard of rushing up the middle. He can take the inside run out of the game. Blink, and he will be getting floored by an undersized, talentless center single-handedly. Watson has the unique ability to look like a top five overall pick and an undraftable talent on consecutive plays. No one will be better at ironing out the inconsistencies in Gabe Watson's game than the disciplinarian, Romeo Crennel. Watson has the ideal size (6'4"/339) to play defensive tackle in the 3-4. He is impossible to pass up here.
(78) Rodrique Wright, DE. Texas
Further upgrading the defensive front, Rodrique Wright is the tal, athletic defensive tackle that could make the adjustment moving to end in the 3-4. Wright has impressive size at 6'5"/300. He is able to both rush the passer and stuff the run. A classic underachiever in college, Wright is questioned by doubters, but a coach like Romeo Crennel is exactly the disciplinarian who would be able to right the ship. Given team needs, a big, strong, experienced defensive tackle like Wright will be impossible to pass on in the third round. Rodrique Wright would finish off the Browns upgrades up front.
(*) Haloti Ngata, DT. Oregon
With a year or two to groom behind Ted Washington, Haloti Ngata can be a pro bowler in the NFL. At 6'4"/338, Ngata has ideal size to play the nose tackle position in the 3-4. He can take on two blockers better than any defensive tackle prospect to enter the draft in recent memory. In addition, Ngata has the requisite athleticism to get to the quarterback as a pass rusher. His blend of size and speed is truly rare. An elite prospect, Ngata would have the Browns pinching themselves on draft day if he made it to #12. A legitimate option to be swiped up by the Bills at #8 and the Radiers at #7, Ngata is simply a beast in the middle. He is the ideal guy for the Browns to grab.
