Arizona Cardinals Forecast
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Arizona Cardinals (5-11)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
(10) Winston Justice, OT. USC
(41) Daniel Bullocks, S. Nebraska
(72) Brodie Croyle, QB. Alabama
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The Arizona Cardinals have given their team an immediate boost in the form of Edgerrin James. Having been a running back away from a juggernaut offense the past two years, James certainly will fit that bill. Offensively, the team could use an elite tight end prospect like Vernon Davis very effectively in the passing game. Beyond Davis, the team needs to focus on the offensive line and a future quarterback to replace Kurt Warner. Defensively, the team needs a safety to play opposite Adrian Wilson and replace the aging Robert Griffith. Finding a centerfielder will be a top priority on draft day. An outside linebacker would make a lot of sense as Orlando Huff certainly does not strike fear into opposing offensive coordinators.
(10) Winston Justice, OT. USC
The offensive line in Arizona is bad. Leonard Davis is an excellent offive lineman. He is dominant when linedup at either guard potisition of at right tackle. However, he does not possess the requisite athleticism to play left tackle, where he is currently. Bring in a guy with a 39" vertical at 319 pounds, and I think the Cardinals will have found their guy. Justice is a physical freak. He is an outstanding run blocker and an excellent pass blocker. He is mobile and has tons of upside. What he lacks in technique at the moment, he makes up for with Pro-Bowl potential. He is an elite prospect no matter which way you cut it. He would fill a giant need for the Cardinals.
(41) Daniel Bullocks, S. Nebraska
Needing to grab a playmaker to suit up opposite Adrian Wilson, the Falcons would find a steal in Danial Bullocks. With Robert Griffith looking forward to retirement, the Cardinals need to find a permanent solution at safet. Bullocks is just who Cardinals' fans would love to have. Daniel is a better prospect than his brother, Josh, was a year ago. Josh went in the early second round to the Saints and proceeded to start every game this past season. Daniel has excellent size at 6'1"/212. His 4.38 speed is elite among safeties. He has excellent mobility and range. He is relatively poor in man coverage, making him an ideal candidate for a centerfielder. He is simply the fast, rangy style of defensive back that the Cardinals adore.
(72) Brodie Croyle, QB. Alabama
Kurt Warner is simply not the long-term answer in Arizona. Having no backup optoin outside of John Navarre, the Cardinals lack the flexibility to help their defense with this pick. Quarterback needs to be addressed by the end of day one, and Brodie Croyle will be their guy. He would give the Cardinals just what they desire at the position. Croyle has a big arm to get the ball downfield. His 6'3"/205 frame is competent, but needs some added weight to be NFL-ready. Nevertheless, he moves well in the pocket and puts excellent touch on his passes. A leader on the field, Croyle simply is an excellent decision-maker and projects well to the NFL because of this.
(*) Jay Cutler, QB. Vanderbilt
Vernon Davis is the #1 guy on the Cardinals draft board. If he manages to slip to #10, he will be snatched up in a hurry. Should Davis land in San Francisco or Oakland, the Cardinals will likely take a quarterback with their first round pick. Jay Cutler would be a great option for the franchise. He has a rocket arm, capable of getting the ball downfield to Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. His footwork is raw, but with no rush of starting tomorrow, he would have time to iron out his flaws before stepping in for Warner when the time comes. At Vanderbilt, Cutler's wide receivers gave him tight windows to throw into. His offensive line forced him to throw under pressure. Through it all, Cutler was successful in the SEC: one of the best defense conferences in America. All signs point to him being great.
